V Bar Montana

Project Goal

V Bar Montana, a tallow company founded by two 5th-generation Montana women, set out to share the purity and heritage of ranch life through their handcrafted tallow and tallow balms. They came to me to bring their vision to life—through complete brand development, a Shopify website, cohesive packaging, and a content strategy that reflected the authenticity and integrity of their process.

Our shared goal: build a brand that feels as real and grounded as the land it comes from.

Understanding The Client

V Bar Montana’s story begins where tradition meets intention. Their products — pure rendered beef tallow and nourishing balms — are made from Montana cattle raised on real ranches, using simple, time-honored methods. The founders wanted a brand that honored their heritage while appealing to a growing audience seeking clean, sustainable, and locally made body care.

The challenge was to translate that ranch-born authenticity into a refined, modern brand experience, balancing rugged roots with a timeless sense of trust and purity.

The Approach

Visual Direction

The brand was inspired by Montana ranching life, with a newer, bold twist: colors are pulled from the natural landscapes, images are sourced from a local photographer who captures nearby ranches for authenticity, and a modern feel is incorporated for the modern consumer turning to sustainable practices. The logo combines simplicity with heritage, using the cattle brand from the owners’ family ranch.


Content Strategy

We built a narrative centered on purity, place, and people. Every piece of copy contributes to the brand's storytelling, aiming to connect the customer to a lineage of care and craftsmanship, while also speaking in the authentic, bold voice of an eco-conscious consumer.

The Shopify site was designed for clarity and connection:

  • Streamlined navigation and clean product pages highlight the ingredients and benefits.

  • A blog that allows the owners to share their passion and story behind creating tallow products, connecting the consumer more closely to the brand and it’s ideals.

  • Photography emphasizes texture and authenticity—natural light, real materials, no gloss.


Packaging Design

Each label was designed to evoke a high-end, yet handcrafted simplicity, featuring hand-drawn elements and witty copy. The result feels both artisanal and timeless, something that could sit proudly on a ranch shelf or a boutique skincare counter.
